Retail Health Centers

When you have a minor illness or need a vaccination, you may want to go to an in-network retail health center for care. These medical clinics, located in retail stores and pharmacies, offer convenient care and are staffed by nurse practitioners or physician assistants.

Select MinuteClinic® and select RediClinics® are in network, so you can keep your costs low.

When you get care at a retail health center:

  • You don’t need a referral. Just show your Horizon BCBSNJ member ID card.
  • Your copay will be the specialist copay amount shown on your member ID card. For members with NJ DIRECT HDHP, the charge is applied to your deductible/coinsurance.
  • With your consent, the practitioner will share information about your visit with your Primary Care Physician (PCP) or primary doctor.

A retail health center is not an alternative to your PCP or primary doctor, but is a good alternative when you need care in a hurry. Annual physicals and well exams are not covered at retail health centers.

If lab work is recommended, it can be performed at the retail health center, but samples must be sent to LabCorp or Quest Diagnostics, in-network labs, for the service to be covered. Practitioners at retail health centers may recommend you see your PCP for additional assessment or treatment plans.
