New Reimbursement Policy: Smoking Cessation

Horizon BCBSNJ continues to enhance our claim auditing for professional claims.

Effective September 26, 2019, Horizon BCBSNJ will change the way we consider certain professional claims for smoking cessation services provided September 26, 2019 and after based on the guidelines of our reimbursement policy Smoking Cessation

This policy will help ensure that the processing of claims for services provided to our members is in line with current standard business practices in regard to coding and billing rules and guidelines.

Member benefits will not be impacted by this new policy. In addition, claims submitted for services rendered prior to September 26, 2019 will not be impacted.

This reimbursement policy will be applied to professional claims for services provided to patients enrolled in:

  • Fully insured groups
  • ASO groups that have opted-in to the guidelines of this policy

We strongly encourage you to review the content of the new Smoking Cessation policy, in addition to all other policies, included in the Reimbursement Policies & Guidelines.

Unless Horizon BCBSNJ gives written notice that all or part of the above changes have been cancelled or postponed, the changes will be applied to claims for services on and after September 26, 2019.
