New ID Card Policy – Patients Do Not Need a Physical Member ID Card

Your staff may be in the habit of asking for a physical member ID card to make copies or verify benefit information. But if your Horizon or Braven Health patients present a digital member card, you must accept it based on our new Digital Member ID Card Policy.

More members are using digital member ID cards, which are convenient and easy to access from smartphones using the Horizon Blue app or at HorizonBlue.com. You cannot refuse to provide services to a patient if a traditional, physical member ID card is not presented. Digital member ID cards provide a secure way to access the most up-to-date member benefit information and provide valid proof of coverage.

With digital ID cards or by verifying information on NaviNet®, your practice doesn’t have to rely on scanning or copying cards to verify a patient’s benefits.

Accessing Digital Member ID Cards Is Easy
You can also view or print a digital member ID card through NaviNet.

Here’s how:

  • Select Horizon BCBSNJ within the My Health Plans menu.
  • Mouse over Eligibility & Benefits and select Eligibility & Benefits Inquiry.
  • Enter your patient’s Horizon member ID number or their first name, last name and date of birth. Click Search.
  • Within the member ID card column, select View next to the member’s name.

You can also use the Eligibility and Benefits Cost Share Tool without an ID card.
