More products are now eligible for reimbursement through your Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

On March 27, 2020, the CARES Act was signed into law expanding the list of products eligible for reimbursement from your medical Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA). Some items may also be newly eligible for Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) plans.

Eligible items now include:

  • Over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, which previously were only eligible for reimbursement with a prescription
  • Feminine hygiene products such as tampons, pads, liners, cups and sponges

This change is retroactive to January 1, 2020. This means you can file for reimbursement for these items if you’ve purchased them since January 1.

How to take advantage of the changes

It’s easy—just continue to use your debit card as you would for any eligible item.

If your debit card doesn’t work, it may be that the store’s system hasn’t been updated. If that happens, use another form of payment for the items and submit your receipt for reimbursement. You can submit for reimbursement through HorizonBlue.com, the Horizon Blue app, or by faxing or mailing.

Sign in at HorizonBlue.comand then under the My Accounts section, select Horizon MyWay. Click on View More Activity. Under the I Want To section, select Get Reimbursed.
