Losartan Recall

Horizon BCBSNJ is committed to keeping our members safe by providing important information. Certain manufacturers of medicines containing losartan, a medicine which is used to treat high blood pressure, are recalling certain lot numbers of the medicine because it may have small amounts of an ingredient which could cause cancer.

Trace amounts of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), a probable human carcinogen, were found in the recalled products. The presence of NDMA is thought to be related to changes in the way the active substance was manufactured. To date, no adverse events related to this recall have been reported.

Contact your pharmacy or doctor if you or are relative are taking a medicine containing losartan. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor about your treatment options. Do not stop taking the medicine without talking to your doctor.

For more information about the recall, visit the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website or call Pharmacy Member Services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at 1-800-370-5088.
