New Jersey has a law, the Out-of-Network Consumer Protection, Transparency, Cost Containment and Accountability Act (the “Act”), to help protect you from surprise bills, including bills for emergency services from doctors, hospitals and other health care professionals who are not in your health plan’s network (also called out-of-network providers). Read questions and answers to help you understand out-of-network care, surprise bills and how the Act can help you.
As our member, you have access to quality care from a large networks of experienced qualified doctors and hospitals. By using the doctors and hospitals in our networks, you can lower your out-of-pocket medical costs and still get the care you need.
If your health plan includes benefits for out-of-network services or supplies, and you opt for such services or supplies, you generally will have higher out-of-pocket expenses than if you used in-network providers.
