ER visits: know before you go

It’s important to know what your insurance covers when you go to the ER. Depending on your health plan, you may need to pay both a deductible and a copayment – two different out-of-pocket costs that are your responsibility as a member.

Your annual deductible is the amount you must pay towards eligible health care costs before your plan starts to pay. To check the amount that you have paid towards your deductible and your out-of-pocket costs, sign into Member Online Services and:

  • Click My Accounts
  • Next, click Out-of-Pocket Expenses

Your copayment is the amount you pay the doctor or hospital at the time you receive care. This amount is fixed based on your plan, and the type of doctor or health care professional who is treating you. It can be found on the front of your member ID card.
