Advanced Imaging Program

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield has entered into an agreement with AIM Specialty Health to help manage certain advanced imaging and sleep study related services for our members enrolled in certain National Account self-insured groups.

Did you know that you may pay a different amount for an MRI or a CT scan depending on where you go? And a higher price doesn't always mean better value. If your Horizon plan requires you to pay some of this cost (like a deductible or coinsurance), where you go can make a big difference to your wallet.

Horizon's Advanced Imaging Program is handled by AIM Specialty Health. They can help find the right place for your MRI or CT scan.

How it works

  • Your doctor refers you to a radiology provider for an MRI or CT scan.

  • Your doctor contacts AIM. AIM will work with your doctor to make sure you get the right test — using evidence-based guidelines.

  • AIM also reviews the referral to see if there are other radiology providers near you that offer the same service but at a lower price.

  • AIM will call you if they find another provider that offers the same service for less.

  • You now have a choice. You can see the radiology provider your doctor chose or, you can choose the provider that AIM found. AIM will even help you schedule an appointment with the new provider.

This program can help you pay less for these services and make sure you get the right care, in the right place. You'll also get an estimate of how much the service will cost you to help you make the right choice.

No matter which provider you choose, your health care benefits will not change.
