Why can’t I view the information of another member on my policy online?
Patient health information is protected under the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
As a result, the subscriber on the policy will only be able to view all information, including information for sensitive services, for themselves and any minors on their policy under the age of 12.
For minors over the age of 12 and adult dependents, the subscriber will have access to information pertaining to payment, treatment or health care operations in a generic format only, unless the member uses the secure member web portal or completes a form appointing the subscriber as the member’s Limited Personal Representative with access to sensitive services, or Legal Representative.
Sensitive services include:
- Mental health
- Substance use disorder
- HIV/AIDS
- Sexually transmitted diseases
- Genetic information
- Sexual health/family planning
- Abortion
- Pregnancy
