Drug Disposal

Horizon BCBSNJ – Committed to Keeping You Safe

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey is committed to fighting the opioid epidemic and avoiding prescription drug misuse.

Opioids are a class of drugs that include the illegal drug heroin, synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, and pain relievers available legally by prescription, such as oxycodone (contained in OxyContin® and Percocet), hydrocodone (Vicodin®), codeine and morphine. Opioids are generally safe when taken for a short time and as prescribed by a doctor, but they can be misused and lead to addiction, overdose and death.

You recently received a DisposeRx® packet, which allows for the safe and effective disposal of unused medicines by forming a gel-like substance when mixed with the product that prevents the retrieval of the medicine.
