Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey is committed to providing our customers with the tools and resources they need to manage employee health costs. One of these important tools for our self-insured customers is our Stop Loss insurance coverage. Stop Loss provides businesses that want the advantages of self-funding with the ability to reduce their risk of potentially catastrophic expenses from medical and prescription claims.

Now Horizon BCBSNJ is enhancing our Stop Loss product for new customers through an innovative program. Starting June 1, 2017, when a new self-insured group purchases our Stop Loss product, the group will automatically receive access to our successful Primary Nurse Program. The Primary Nurse Program can further mitigate employers’ risk of unexpected costs because Primary Nurses are able to proactively address many of the drivers of high claims.

The Horizon BCBSNJ Primary Nurse Program is an enhancement to traditional Case Management in which nurses assist members in receiving appropriate and timely care for their condition. Primary Nurses are assigned to specific groups and work closely with the group’s employees who are acutely or chronically ill. Primary Nurses get to know these employees personally; each Primary Nurse is deeply familiar with the group’s benefits and can provide concierge service for claims and benefit issues.

Stop Loss with the Primary Nurse Program is a win-win program: Employees have access to someone who can understand and address their needs, and employers receive more protection against costly claims thanks to our Primary Nurses’ case management efforts.
