Horizon BCBSNJ Expands Behavioral Health Support Program
November 21, 2018
Applies to: Commercial fully insured
Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey has expanded its behavioral health support program with AbleTo, Inc. to provide additional clinical program offerings for our eligible members.
Horizon BCBSNJ and AbleTo, Inc. began collaborating in 2015 to help members deal with the stress, anxiety and sadness that often accompany chronic health conditions and life-changing medical events.
The eight-week program provides eligible members with support from licensed therapists and behavioral health coaches remotely – by either phone or secure live video – at a convenient time for the member.
This program was previously only offered to eligible members who suffered from a cardiac event, or had chronic pain and/or respiratory issues. With the new expansion, the program will now support members that are experiencing psychological distress, chronic medical conditions and/or traumatic life events associated with any of the following:
- Anxiety and Panic
- Cardiac arrest
- Caregiver (Adult, Child, Autism)
- Chronic Pain Management
- Gastrointestinal Health
- General Depression
- Military Transition
- Oncology (Women and Men)
- Postpartum Care
- Respiratory (COPD)
- Substance Use Disorder
- Trauma Response (PTSD)
Horizon BCBSNJ continually reviews medical information to identify members who may benefit from this program. We’re working with AbleTo to provide our members with new tools to help them manage their health care and well-being.
Participants complete an initial assessment and then meet twice a week, once with a therapist and once with a behavioral coach, for up to eight weeks, and will learn to:
- Engage more fully in meaningful activities
- Improve communication with family and health care professionals
- Improve mood and outlook
- Manage stress
- Maximize physical recovery after a medical event
- Overcome barriers to positive change
- Set boundaries and improve time management
- Set specific and achievable goals
- Transition back to work after a leave of absence
Horizon BCBSNJ covers the complete cost of this value-added program (no copayments, coinsurance or deductible payments apply) for eligible members, with the exception of members enrolled in High-Deductible Health Plans (HDHPs) with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Deductible rules will apply to members with HDHPs with HSAs. If members enrolled in HDHPs with HSAs have already met their deductible when their participation in the program begins, then the cost of the program will be covered completely.
If you have any questions, please contact your Horizon BCBSNJ sales executive or account manager.
