California Wildfires Update

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield is working to ensure that all members who are impacted by the California wildfires have continued access to care.

Members in the affected areas can expect:

  • Prior authorization notification time limits (the pre-approval for certain services) to be waived.
  • To be able to use their health coverage to replace medical equipment or supplies that are lost due to the wildfires, subject to their plan terms including regular cost share requirements.
  • Early refills and replacements for lost, destroyed or undeliverable medications, if prescription coverage is provided through Horizon BCBSNJ. Pharmacists or members can call our pharmacy benefits manager, Prime Therapeutics LLC, at 1-800-370-5088 with questions.

As always, when members need care, they can display or print their member ID cards by registering and signing in to our secure member website and choosing ID Cards. Or access your ID card using the Horizon Blue mobile app. To download, text GetApp to 422-272 or visit the App Store or Google Play and search for Horizon Blue. There is no charge to download the app, but standard messaging or data rates from your wireless provider may apply.

We will continue to monitor the situation and work with other Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield Plans to help members get the care they need. We hope for the safety and well-being of all who are affected by these devastating fires.
