MANAGED CARE RESIDENCY
HORIZON BLUE CROSS BLE SHIELD OF NEW JERSEY

THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW JERSEY
Introduction
The residency in care at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, in conjunction with Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is a one-year post-Pharm.D. specialized training program geared towards the development of clinical skills in a managed care setting.
Residents will be trained to be an integral part of the formulary management process, presenting at quarterly Pharmacy and Therapeutics meetings, evaluating new drug literature and utilization patterns, researching and updating medical and pharmacy policies, and supporting disease state management programs. Residents will also participate in medication therapy management programs for Medicare Part D members, learn about pharmacy and medical benefit design, work with new technologies such as ePrescribing and participate in research projects.
Residents will gain industry and Pharmacy Benefits Management perspective of managed care through routine business meetings and collaborative projects.
Other opportunities include teaching pharmacy students and presenting individual research projects at the spring AMCP national meeting.

Criteria for Residency
- Degree: Pharm.D.
- Graduate from accredited school of pharmacy.
- New Jersey state licensure to practice pharmacy.
